December is Family Time

The Bruyneel Team's "Tour de Family" is well underway. First to Valencia where we visited Eva's family, followed by a travel day to Izegem, Belgium where Team Bruyneel is currently based. With my busy travel schedule, cycling commitments and the kids in school, unfortunately we only make it back to my hometown about once a year, twice if lucky. It's extra special for us to spend the holidays with my brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins and of course, my mother. And it's important for me and Eva that Victoria and Christian have a relationship with their cousins. They may speak different languages, but we've found that playing with toys breaks down any communication barriers. Speaking about toys: I had a special talk with Santa Claus this year and he let me know that he has both kids on the gift list. A Nintendo 3DS for Victoria and a Bob the Builder toolbox for Christian. I'm sure they'll be very happy when they find the presents under the tree upon our return to London on the 26th. We'll then spend next week at home where we'll ring in 2012 with close friends.

Switching gears to my other family - RADIOSHACK NISSAN TREK. As many of you know, we had our December training camp a few weeks ago. Nice weather, good training rides, productive meetings and an overall great feeling. We mixed up the riders so they were not rooming with a teammate from last year - a strategy I try to employ every year at training camps, but more important this year compared to others. The training rides were at a good pace, but still allowed for some talking and bonding. And we had a dinner table filled with laughter and jokes. We are no longer two teams. We are one team and that puts me at ease as we head into our first race next month. Lining up in Australia will be Daniele Bennati, Linus Gerdemann, Ben Hermans, Tiago Machado, Hayden Roulston, Jesse Sergent and Jens Voigt, directed by Jose Azevedo.

The camp also had some special visits from our sponsors. For many of the riders and staff, this was the first time they met our partners from RadioShack and Nissan. RadioShack CMO Lee Applbaum also came with Ipads - a most generous gift. I'm just amazed that he was able to pack them all in his suitcase! Needless to say, we certainly are very lucky for the support that all our sponsors have given us. The sponsors are very much looking forward to 2012 and I know that we will represent them with pride as we race throughout the world.

Sorry it's a short blog this time (more writing in January), but I need to get back to the family. As we close the book on 2011, I thank you once again.

Wishing you and your family, a very happy holiday and a wonderful 2012.

One last note - I hope you can attend the team presentation on January 6 from 18:30 to 23:00 Rockhal, Esch/Alzette, Lucembourg. It's free to enter, but please reserve your ticket at
