Johan's relationship with Lance Armstrong goes beyond their historic seven Tours de France. The Belgian and native Texan were once brought together by their common passion to win bike races. Now, eleven years after their first Tour victory, Johan is still committed to helping Lance win, both on AND off the bike!
Johan's 2007 commitment to the Lance Armstrong Foundation saw his Discovery Channel Team riders partner with fans, resulting in over $30,000 for cancer research and the opportunity for two lucky cancer survivors to meet Lance at the Ride for the Roses. In 2009, Johan's Team Astana joined LIVESTRONG's Global Cancer campaign, creating the website RIDE for LIVESTRONG which served to educate fans about cancer in countries throughout the world, give people the opportunity to make a contribution in honor, support or memory of an individual affected by cancer and enter a race kilometer fight against cancer contest. In total, Johan has helped to raise over $310,000 for LIVESTRONG.
